Hi,
I Have A Car I Have Been Working On For 34 Years And Now Its Paint Time. I Have Always Liked Devilbiss Guns. I Am Not A Well Seasoned Sprayer As Most Of You, However I Am Very Critical Of My Work. I Take Way Too Long To Finish Projects. They Are Always Very Nice When Completed. I Was Looking At The Millenium And The Finishline Guns . Can You Guys Give Me Some Things To Consider And What To Look For. Is There That Much Of A Difference Between Them Or Not ? Also Will I Need A Separate Gun For Primer, Jams & Base/clear Coats. What Are Your Suggestions ?
I Also Ordered Your Instructional Tape " Spray Painting 101 ".
Thanks For The Insight And Your Responses !

DeVilbiss makes excellent spray guns and both the GTI and the Finishline are excellent guns for the money. However, if I were purchasing a DeVilbiss spray gun today I'd get their latest model the GFG-670G "Plus" gun. The Plus atomizes a little better than the GTI and still comes with the three fluid tips that allow you to spray a wide variety of coatings.

The Plus is all you would need for most jobs but we usually recommend a less expensive gun like the Finishline III (http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=1D)or even a less expensive gun (http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=LESE) for spraying primer. But with a good cleaning kit you could use the Plus for primer and paint.

get a sata
get a sata
Spoken like a man of conviction and a man with money. Sata is a good gun but at a high price and if you're only doing one or two cars a year I'm not sure that it's worth it. They spray well but not much (if any) better than the DeVilbiss Plus but they are made a little better. However for the average DIYer the Sata may be a little overkill. If you want a Sata we still offer them at a competitive prices.

Hi Guys,
Many Thanks For The Replys. I Also Have An Old Ford Truck That Could Use A Little Make-over, (2) Bikes That Are 30 To 50 Year Old And A Couple Of Gas Pumps Then I Am Totally Done. I Had Seen A Kit That Had A Couple Of Devilbiss Finishline Guns ( 1 For Primer & 1 For Paint ) That Looked Appealing. However I Am Not Afraid Of Spending For A Good Gun That Would Fill The Bill !.
If The Devillbiss Plus Would Do Everything Then Maybe That Would Be The Way To Go. Now How About A Jam Gun ? What Do You Think ?

I've just finished doing the jambs on a 68 Chrysler Newport convertible tonight using the Dura-Block 7004 GMS, it's an excellent gun for this purpose and it's not too expensive. Comes with everything including inlet regulator, cup swivel, wrench and cleaning kit for under $100.

the only reason i say sata is you could paint all your projects that you need done then sale the sata and get almost all your money back compared to buying a devilbiss a used one doesnt hold its value where as if you get a nice digital 2 sata for the right price it will last a lifetime and if you decide you dont need it you can get most your money back and have used it for practically free
I've never seen a used Sata selling for more than about half it's original value. Hey, if this is the case I have several used Sata guns I'll sell you for 10% less than they originally sold for ... hey it's a real deal right?
In reality the for almost amount you would loose when you sold the Sata you could purchase a DeVilbiss and keep it.

if you follow ebay you will see the used satas bring top dollar i have saw used digital rps bring 400 on ebay this is the truth if you look around you can buy a new digital2 gun for $400 shipped to your door in some cases the gun is only $380 i will go through the listings on ebay and see if i can find the one i am talking about and try to post you a link on it i personally have never used a devilbiss so dont know the quality of the gun or how it sprays just from what i have seen the satas hold there value pretty good but seriously though you said you had some used satas for sale what you got i may be interested

If I were going to spend the $ for a RP digital and the difference between new and used was $79 I think it could be quite risky to opt for the used gun. You've got to figure that a slight scratch on the fluid tip could cost you $200. or any minor malfunction and you could have more in the used gun than you would have in a new one.

you are correct i agree with you a hundred percent thats why i didnt say buy a used sata on ebay i just said you could buy a new sata and then if you decide to ever get rid of it you could sell it on ebay ;) anyway what kind of satas do you have that you want to get rid of i may be interested and also replacement parts for sata are ridiculous 200 for a needle and nozzle thats crazy but if you take care of them they should last nearly a lifetime especially if you are just a hobbiest
I have a 2000 and a MJ3 and they have both been used for about 3 years. I sold my RP a while back and now I'm pretty much using only my Dura-Block 007 for all my high-end painting.
As far as taking care of the gun is concerned... all you need to do is let the wrench slip off the fluid tip when you're removing or installing it and it will nick the end of the tip causing pattern distortion. That will be $200 please.

yes i know thats why i am extra careful i know with my sata rp i can use a socket on it so that makes it easier too is that cheaper dura block gun that you have on sale any good i thought about tryin it for a basecoat gun
Yes, all the Dura-Block guns are excellent guns for the price. Parts for all the guns are also sold at a good price. The 7003 will come with two fluid tips until the end of the special but we still have a couple more that we can sell with the second tip so we may extend the special for another week.

I'd say it's somewhere between a Finishline III and a Sharpe T1.
