I am looking at a compressor and the manufacturer (Ingersoll Rand) gives a 2-year warranty vice 1 for using their synthetic oil. Normally I'm all over synthetics, they're better. I work in Power plants and one place I worked had screw compressors with synthetic oil. The oil after change-out would give off a 'sweet' smell into the air like anti-freeze that you could smell for about 3 weeks when you'd blow-down the air recievers for moisture-checks. If this also occurs with Ingersoll's synthetic oil, could this ruin a paint-job??
anyone running synthetic in their Air Compressor?
Thanks for all the valuable information.

Hi, I run Synthetic Oil in my compressor.

I did not notice any sweet smell though during last oil change.

I think if any oil makes it to the gun in the air, regardless if it
is syn or not you will have problems with your paint. I use a
Water / Oil trap and a desiccant snake inline of the air feed.

No Air problems so far !

Thnks ><

I use synthetic also, no problems. Synthetic is a much better oil, it will take more heat with out braking down, and should not put as much oil in your tank. Your compressor will last longer and stay cleaner inside, less chance of deposits on valves and less chance of valve problems. Also make sure you have a good clean air filter, they are easy to forget about.
