Any special to do to a spray gun for long term storage ?
Originally my buddy who is a painter would clean the gun, then drop an inch or so of thinner in the cup and leave the tip and nozzle in the cup.

So I inturn did the same thing. BUt it's been a couple years since I used my gun and now I found junk floating in the thinner that was in the cup and the inside of the cup pitting. So I'm now assuming that complete dry storage is the way to go. My gun also sits out in the garage so it's stays the outside temp.

Any comments.

Thanks,
Nick

same thing happened to my gun with the cup. Aluminum corrodes pretty good dry also so I'm guessing store it with some oil in the cup, then totally clean the oil out before using... ?

Never store your gun (long or short term) with thinner in the cup. After using the gun you should take it apart, clean it, allow it to dry then put it together dry and lubricate the needle before you install it. That's it, no thinner, just be sure to clean it well and allow it to dry BEFORE you reassemble. Thinner will cause deterioration of the seals and packings.

I did what Len just said for my gun and it's been put up for over a year now.

I did take it out once last fall when I brought a new compressor (just ran air through it) but there were no issues with the cosmetics or functionality.
